  Mr. Einojuhani Rautavaara's birthday celebration on ART+ on KDRT included interviews with conductors Mr. Vladimir Ashkenazy and Mr. Leif Segerstam as well as pianist Lauara Mikkola.  Canadian film producer Pirkko Karavonnen, who is a great advocate for everything Finnish, read Mr. Rautavaara's emailed interview on the show. 
This show touched on many topics including Piano Concerto No. 3 which Mr. Rautavaara wrote for Mr. Ashkenazy, Manhattan Trilogy which was commissioned for Julliard's Centenial and Cantus Articus. Mr. Segerstam's favourite Rautavaara composition is Cantus Articus.  Mr. Rautavaara also discussed pieces of his music including his recent opera Rasputin, Manhattan Trilogy, Ikons ans well as Mr. Rautavaara's compositions for children, among other topics.

         ART+ podcast: Preservation Hall Jazz Band releases Made in New Orleans, a commemorative CD set

     Preservation Hall’s new box CD ‘Made in New Orleans’ is actually all made in New Orleans. It includes historical treasures about Preservation Hall and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The new CD will be available on line at the band’s web site http://www.preservationhall.com starting July, 2007.
         Mr. Ben Jaffe, artistic director of Preservation Hall shared with ART+ how Hurricane Katrina's affected the band and led to the release of their new CD, Made in New Orleans, to commemorate and preserve its 47 year music history. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the homes of five of the band's members and led to closing Preservation Hall's building for eight months. The building re-opened in May, 2006 to a limited performance schedule.

   Mr. Jaffe described his and his wife's efforts to raise public awarness for the need of artstic and cultural projects in New Orleans after Katrina. He also described their work to help musicians in New Orleans after Katrina.

Mr. Jaffe discussed Preservation Hall’s tour this summer which included performances in London with Allen Toussaint.

  <description>  Mrs. Margrit Mondavi talked about some of the art and music programs she introduced at the Robert Mondavi Winery. She talked about how she expanded the Winery's art collection to include sculptures by Beniamino Bufano and other famous artists from California and from around the world. 

Mrs. Mondavi's interest in good food and fine wines led to introducing the Executive Chef Classes at the Robert Mondavi Winery. She recently introduced TAST3: Art Music, Food series at the Winery. Mrs. Mondavi believes that good food and wine are important because, she said. 'important events in our lives are celebrated around dinner tables.' 

In this interview, Mrs. Mondavi talked about some of the Mondavi family's past and future philanthropic plans that relate to art and education at UCDavis. She is very proud of the Art Department and Wine School at UCDavis, and believes that UCDavis is an excellent University. Margrit Mondavi is also very proud of their work as founding patrons of COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts, in Napa.
